1 – MOUY / THE HOUSE OF MANY ROOFS

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

House No. 1 or “Mouy” in Khmer, is a unique structure with a triple roof and horizontal cladding. As one of the first houses to be seen upon arrival at Sala Lodges, it’s located on the right-hand side of the main pathway. Interestingly, it was the last house to be delivered to the site, in September 2012.

Originally, this house was located in Ta Prom, a small village in Siem Reap province, situated roughly 60 kilometers from the town. Built by a master carpenter in 1957, the home is decorated with numerous intricate details as the “architect” poured his heart and knowledge into the construction. The house was owned by Bunrom Ren and his family but had to be sold when they were forced to move to take care of rice paddies far from their home. In order to prevent the family home from being destroyed, the 40-year-old man decided to sell it.

    2 & 3 – PI & BEI / THE FAMILY HOUSE

Suite Lodge – Two connecting bedrooms

If you’re looking for the perfect family getaway, look no further. Our connecting rooms each feature a private entrance, with a spacious 55 m2 terrace that can be combined to create one large space.

Built in 1962, this family house hails from the quaint village of Thnont – named for its abundant sugar palms – in the commune of Kampong Chen Chon, also known as the “port of the northern Chinese.” Located approximately 75 kilometers southeast of Siem Reap, Kampong Thom is an ideal location to experience the beauty of Cambodia.

The property was once used as a military base for the army of Stong district, owned by Colonel Ly Chheang. However, it was deemed too cramped for the soldiers and eventually sold in August 2011.

    5 – BRAM / THE HIGH HOUSE

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

Discover “Bram” – No. 5 – This unique accommodation was originally built in 1985 in Srü, located 150 km to the east of Siem Reap in the Kompong Thom province. Bram, which can host up to three people, is perfect for those who enjoy heights and seek adventure.

Previously owned by Neth Hour and his wife Sos Soeun, both experts in rubber tree and cassava plantations, this house was their family home for many years. The couple eventually sold their beloved dwelling to finance the construction of their new, larger and sturdier home.

Interestingly, Boun and Pram, the tallest houses in Sala Lodges, are both from different provinces and were located just a few kilometers apart before being rebuilt in mid-July 2011.

    6 – HOUSE BRAM MOUY
    THE FISHMONGERS’ HOUSE

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

House No. 6, “Bram mouy” in Cambodian, is amongst the oldest in Sala Lodges. Built in 1958, it was discovered in the village of Or, in the Sang Voeuy commune. This village in the province of Siem Reap is situated some 60 kilometres from the town.

Its owner, Mao Heng, is a retired fishmonger. He gave his business to his son. Like many others, the 70-year-old said he would sell his house so as to be able to build a larger and “prettier” home. Bram mouy arrived on the Sala Lodges site at the end of August 2012.

    THE HOUSE WITH GREY SHUTTERS

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

Retreat to House No. 7 (“Bram pi” in Khmer) for a peaceful getaway, just steps away from the pool and open-air lounge.

Located in Wat Svay, a village in Salakamroeuk, the same commune as Sala Lodges, this house was originally built in 1983 and owned by Dara Sin, a 49- year-old soldier, and his wife Kimouch Seng, a gold retailer.

After being reconstructed on site in June 2012, it now boasts a beautiful terrace with a breathtaking view of the rice paddies and sunset.

    8 – HOUSE BRAM BEI
THE HOUSE WITH THE HORIZONTAL CLADDING

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

Sala Lodges features two houses with horizontal cladding, one of which is House No. 8, known as “Bram Bei” in Khmer. The house was built in 1965 and originally located in Yeang, a village in the Russey commune named after bamboo. House No. 8 is situated in Siem Reap, around 50 kilometres from the town centre.

The current owners, Srèn Sea and Hong Chhun, are specialized prahoc retailers, a type of fermented fish paste. By chance, they conducted their business outside their home, and like many others, were willing to leave their house behind in order to build a more modern dwelling.

    9 – HOUSE BRAM BOUN
THE HOUSE WITH A VIEW OF THE SACRED TREE

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

House No. 9, also known as “Bram Boun” in Cambodian, was aptly named “View of
the Sacred Tree” due to its enchanting 11m2 terrace that overlooks an abacus where local villagers leave their offerings. According to their beliefs, this Buddha tree is home to benevolent spirits that must be nurtured and watched over.

This charming house was built in 1984 in the village of Peak Snèng Thmèy, located in the Siem Reap province, roughly 30 kilometers north of town and nearby the renowned Bayon temple with 200 faces. The house was previously owned by Peng Chay and his wife Sam Cheam, who lived there with their family. The farmers were willing to let go of their home to make way for a new, larger one.

    10 – HOUSE DOP
THE HOUSE WITH THE TILTED BALCONY

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

Situated on the edge of the central pathway of the hotel, this lodge is at the heart of the « village », two paces away from the open air lounge and not far from the swimming pool.

This house originated in Pouk. Located twenty kilometers northeast of Siem Reap, Pouk is famed for its sericultural farm that breeds silkworms.

However, the former owners of the house, Lorne Luch and Sophy
Som, were not involved in this industry. Instead, they dealt with building materials, which may have influenced their decision to exchange their wooden home for a more permanent one.

    11 – HOUSE DOP MOUY
    THE HONEYMOON HOUSE

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

One of the oldest houses at Sala Lodges, “Dop Mouy” can be found tucked away out of sight. This house is an ideal romantic getaway with its round pillars and two diamond-shaped roofs, built in 1957 in Thnal Kèng, which means “corner of the road,” in the Rong Roueng commune.

The village’s name, which translates to “good luck,” is located in the Preah Vihear province, about 250 km northeast of Siem Reap. Formerly owned by a civil servant in the Cambodian government, Long Kong and his wife Navy Ung, both aged 60, decided to sell their previous family home to construct a more up-to-date one.

    12 – DOP PI
    THE HOBBY HORSE

    Suite Lodge – One bedroom

House No. 12, “Dop pi” in Cambodian, has a distinctive feature in that it has just one roof with two sides. Given this, it is impressive both externally and internally. “Dop pi” takes its name from the two handrails which end with a horse’s head carved out of wood. Sala Lodges welcomed this house in 2012.

This house was located in Kompong Chèn, in the commune of Kompong Chèn Tbon. This village which means “port of the southern Chinese”, is situated in the province of Kompong Thom, 80 kilometres from Siem Reap. This construction dates from 1956 and belonged to Madame Ro Hong, a 70-year-old lady who came from a wealthy family of Chinese traders who made their fortune in groceries.
